Dear Richard Dawkins,

I am writing with regard to selfish genes that are operating on the roads of Colombo. I am writing this because I feel that it gives much evidence to your theory.

Let me illustrate.

Driving on the roads of Colombo is a case in point regards the operation of selfish genes acting in a microcosm of time and space.

Take the operation of the road rules.

Signals. I have finally figured out why the selfish gene does not use them if they are turning off or changing lanes. It is to give vehicles behind them an element of surprise. And also, if they do indicate through their signal, that means that selfish gene at the back can overtake them, even at this last minute. And they don't want that. They must keep the lead until the last possible moment.

Take also the case of overtaking. Selfish genes driving cars behind, must never indicate that they are going to overtake because then the selfish gene in front, would move the vehicle to the middle of the road, even if they are going at 20 km on a clear road.

Selfish genes on Sri Lankan roads, are determined to survive, and to if possible kill the other genes, to reduce competition for the scarce resource. In this case, road space is the scarce resource. However, these selfish genes contain themselves if the LAW is around, because this would stymie their own survival.

Selfish genes driving buses, have often an identity confusion. They often think they are three wheelers, the way they creep through traffic. Each selfish gene driven bus takes a good one and a half lanes width, and flaunt their horns freely. Don't ever get in front of them, don't ever overtake them, Mr. Dawkins, because woe unto you if you do. They flash their headlamps that reflect in your mirrors, overtake you on the left, and push you onto the other side of the road onto oncoming vehicles. The horn alone is enough to give you rapid shoots of adrenalin enough to service a thousand lionesses on hunts in the safari.

Selfish genes on Colombo's roads are bent on propogation at the cost of all. And I, Mr Dawkins, am rapidly going extinct, because my own selfish genes, in a gesture of altruism, have decided to stop my own line, and let the Colombo roads, go to hell.

Thanking you for your kind attention.

Best regards,

B.L. Diddakoi
