Heaven by default?

When christians are sleeping beauties, going to heaven without sinning is not a big achievement really. ...not 'sinning' because of lost rewards, or punishment of burning pits, is certainly quite a primitive response, almost pavlovian.... ...pursuit of morality and ethics for the beauty and purity of it, for the reason that one wants to actually prevent society, individuals, oneself from harm, seems rather the far more honest way... ...questioning laws, and having the balls to reject them when they lack logic, they harm others and oneself, and taking the responsibility upon oneself for having made the decision to go this way, seems the far more courageous way.... ...making the decision to take on ethical standpoints, and laws that make sense right away, rather than waiting for death to answer all one's unanswered questions, too, seems far more real, far less 'sleeping beauty-like...

The violent religion

I think christianity has a lot to blame for the birth of violence in this world. It has given a 2-pronged message to humans, since it's inception. Cain was condemned for the first violent act, yet killing the ammonites, malachites, hititittes, jebbusites and so on was lauded as bravery. They were only fodder for the isrealites (aka God's chosen--of course, cronyism was not included in the 10-commandment act). This juxtaposed with the 6th law (thou shalt not kill). What right does one human have to sacrifice the life of another to prove to a god that he was spiritual / evolved. These are the seeds for the birth of the concept of 'necessary violence' today. That certain humans are more equal, that certain humans are collateral damage for the higher cause. Micheal Nagler asked the question 'if you could make a choice to bring paradise in the world tod...

Need a new word

....for that feeling you get when you are working from quite early, somewhat hungry for breakfast, half-boil an egg with anticipation, while the toast toasts, open the egg up, add just the right touch of salt and pepper, take a mouthful, only to find that bit full of shell...?

Memos to flat-mates: Memo #1

Contrary to your great faith in the power of technology and modern science, lasagna kept for 3 weeks in the oven does not keep. Suggest you try the fridge next time. **note: to check if lasagna is old, cannot be eaten and thrown away, please breathe deeply any where in the flat. You will notice a pungent, old meaty, rotting cheese odor. This is a good indication that you can now put the food in the dustbin, as far away from the house, and as quickly as possible.
